A sprinkler system normally relies on the water pressure a lot. A weak water pressure of the water line may be accredited to a leak somewhere in the line. Such a leak can cost you a lot of money as water usage gets increased dramatically.
Hence such a situation calls for an immediate inspection of the sprinkler line and a respective resolution as soon as possible.
Beforehand, amass the necessary plumbing tools and equipments that would ease the examination work of the line to a good extent. The tools such as channel lock pliers, screwdrivers and hacksaw are a regular affair in the scheme of things. In addition certain affiliated plumbing supplies such as Teflon tape, PVC primer, PVC glue etc. have to be accommodated as well.
Locate the main water valve or the individual control valve to shut off the water supply to the affected sprinkler system. The main water valve is normally situated either in the basement or on the sidewalk of the home. On the other hand the individual sprinkler valve lies adjacent to the sprinkler line or apparatus.
Clean off the area around the work site to allow proper handling and cutting of the affected length of pipe. Take a look at the crack in the pipe and mark down tags on either side of the crack. Make sure that a margin of about 2-3 inches is left on either side of the crack.
Once the pipe is tagged, start cutting it from the depicted position with the help of a hacksaw such that the excess water drips down into a large container or bucket placed under the fixture. Dissociate the pipe completely from the setup and buy a new one of essentially the same length and quality. Also the connectors that would help the new pipe adjust to the old setup, are purchased as well.
Match the length of the new pipe with that of the old pipe and make way for any alteration if required. Apply some PVC glue underside the connectors and on the edges of the new pipe making sure that both the components bind well to each other.
Insert the new length of pipe into the original sprinkler setup and finish off the task by applying some PVC primer on the joints. Be generous in the application of the primer and let it dry off completely. Once the primer has dried, cover the setup with the regular arrangements and restore the normal functioning of your sprinkler system.
